Learn how to use the same bottle of diffuser oil for both your ultrasonic diffuser and dryer balls, creating a seamless laundry and home scent system.

Quick answer

You can use the same all-in-one diffuser and dryer ball oil in your ultrasonic diffuser and on reusable dryer balls, but the method and dilution differ for each application.

Why use one bottle for both?

The Mississippi Candle Company’s all-in-one bottle is designed to work in two very different environments: an ultrasonic diffuser (which disperses a fine mist of water and oil into the air) and a clothes dryer (which uses heat and tumbling to release fragrance from oil-soaked dryer balls). The same oil works for both because it is a pure, concentrated blend without additives that could clog a diffuser or leave residue on laundry.

The main trade-off is concentration. For the diffuser, you add just a few drops to water. For dryer balls, you apply the oil directly and let it absorb before tossing them in the dryer. Using too much oil in the diffuser can overwhelm the room, while too little on the dryer balls may not leave a noticeable scent on your clothes.

How to use the all-in-one bottle for diffuser and dryer ball oil

  1. Step 1: Prepare your diffuser: Fill your ultrasonic diffuser’s water tank with room-temperature distilled water up to the fill line. Add 3–5 drops of the all-in-one oil per 100 ml of water. Do not exceed the recommended drops — too much oil can irritate sensitive noses or leave a greasy film on surfaces. Start with fewer drops and add more next time if the scent is too faint.
  2. Step 2: Run the diffuser cycle: Turn on the diffuser and let it run for 30–60 minutes in the room you want to scent. Place the diffuser on a stable, heat-resistant surface away from electronics and direct sunlight. A common mistake is running the diffuser continuously all day — the scent will fade and the oil may settle. Intermittent use keeps the fragrance fresh. Use a timer or the diffuser’s auto-shutoff to avoid over-diffusing.
  3. Step 3: Prepare your dryer balls: Take 3–6 reusable wool dryer balls and apply 2–4 drops of the all-in-one oil directly onto each ball. Let the oil absorb for 1–2 minutes before tossing them into the dryer with your wet laundry. Do not apply oil to synthetic dryer balls — they may not absorb the oil evenly and could leave spots on clothes. Test one ball first on a small load to confirm the scent strength before doing a full load.
  4. Step 4: Dry your laundry: Place the oiled dryer balls into the dryer with your damp clothes and run a normal drying cycle. The heat will activate the oil and release the fragrance into the fabric. A common mistake is adding the oil directly to the dryer drum or onto clothes — this can cause uneven scenting and oil stains. For a stronger scent, add a few extra drops to the balls mid-cycle, but never apply oil directly to the dryer interior.
  5. Step 5: Store the bottle properly: Keep the all-in-one bottle tightly closed in a cool, dark place away from heat sources and direct sunlight. Heat and light can degrade the oil’s fragrance over time. Do not store it near the dryer or diffuser where it might get warm. If the oil thickens or changes color, it may have oxidized — replace it for best results.
